Questions people ask
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no paid plan, no card to add, nothing locked behind a payment and no upgrade screen anywhere in the app or on this site. You make an account and you have everything.
Then what is the catch?
There isn’t one, but there is a reason. TalkSibi is a language exchange: you help somebody with your language while they help you with theirs. Nobody is being paid to teach you, which is exactly why there is nothing to charge you for. The person at the other end is getting the same thing you are.
Do I need an account to play the games?
No. Word Spies, Round Table, Who is the Spy?, Word Chain, Word Race, Guess the Word, Mind Meld and Broken Telephone all open from a link and seat your friends with a four-letter code without anyone signing up. An account only keeps your name and photo with you between games.
What are the fair-use limits?
Talking to people is not limited at all — chat, calls, games, parties and clubs have no caps. The AI features do: translation, the AI coach and lesson plans have a daily allowance, because each of those costs us money every time anybody uses one. The allowances are set well above a normal day of practice, and they exist to stop one account running up a bill for everybody — not to sell you an upgrade.
Will it stay free?
It is free today, and there is nothing being held back to charge for later. If that ever changes we will say so on this page first, in plain words, before anything changes for anybody.
How is it paid for, then?
Advertising on the public pages, and keeping the running costs low. The games and the chat cost very little to run. The AI features are the expensive part, which is what the daily allowances are about.
Do you sell my data?
No. The Privacy Policy is written in ordinary English rather than boilerplate: what is collected, why, and how to be rid of it. You can delete your account and everything in it from your settings at any time.
Who is it for?
Adults learning a language who would rather speak it with somebody than tap through a course. The community is 18+.
