How to Practise Speaking English With AI — Free, and Without the Nerves

The hardest part of learning English is not grammar. It is finding somebody patient enough to let you be slow, and available at the hour you are actually free. An AI partner solves both — and it is a genuinely good rehearsal room, provided you know what it is and is not for.

What an AI partner is good at

  • Volume. You can have twenty conversations a week without owing anyone anything.
  • Patience. It will not sigh, check the time, or finish your sentence for you.
  • Correction without embarrassment. Being corrected by a machine costs no pride, so beginners accept far more of it.
  • Availability. Three in the morning is fine. So is a five-minute gap before work.
  • Repetition. You can say the same paragraph six times until it sounds right. No human will sit through that.

Where a human is still better

Real people interrupt, misunderstand you, use slang the textbook missed, change the subject, and have accents. That friction is the actual skill. An AI conversation is a driving simulator; a real one is traffic. Use the simulator to build confidence, then get in the car.

How to use it properly

  1. Speak, don't type, when you can. Reading your own writing back is not speaking practice.
  2. Ask for correction explicitly. "Correct my grammar every time" changes the whole session.
  3. Give it a scene. "You are a receptionist, I am checking in late" beats "let's chat".
  4. Repeat the corrected sentence out loud. The correction only sticks if your mouth makes it.
  5. Keep sessions short and frequent. Fifteen minutes daily beats two hours on Sunday.

A practical weekly routine

Four short AI sessions to rehearse and build vocabulary, plus one real conversation with a native speaker to test it under pressure. The AI sessions make the human one less frightening; the human one shows you what to rehearse next.

On TalkSibi both live in the same place — AI partners are always on, and the community wall has real speakers when you are ready. If you are preparing for an exam specifically, see IELTS speaking practice with native speakers.
